Parashurama was the first warrior Brahmin and is also called Brahmakshatriya (both Brahmin and Kshatriya means warrior). His mother Renuka was the daughter of Devi Kshatriya.

Why Parshuram killed his mother?

Parshuram's parents were great spiritual masters, his mother Renuka Devi commanded a water pot and his father Jamadagni on fire. It also said that Renuka Devi can also bring water in a wet clay pot. Once the sage Jamadagni asked Renuka Devi to bring water to the earthen pot, some how distracted by the idea of Renuka Devi being a woman and the earthen pot broke. Angry at seeing Renuka Devi, Jamadagni called her son Parashurama. He orders Parashurama to behead Renuka Devi. Parashuram obeyed his father. Sage Jamadagni was so pleased with his son that he asked him a boon. Parashurama asked the sage Jamadagni to restore his mother's breaths, thus the sage Jamadagni who was the master of divine power brought Renuka Devi's life back.

Parshuram – The 6th incarnation of Shri Vishnu

Once the sage Jamadagni went out of his ashram and meanwhile some Kshatriyas (asuras) reached his ashram. They were looking for food, the deities of the ashram gave them food, they were surprised to see the magical cow Kamadhenu.
He proposed to buy a cow for his king Kartavirya Sahasrarjuna, but the sadhus (saints) and goddesses of all the ashrams refused. They forcefully took the cow. Parashurama killed the entire army of King Kartavirya Sahasrarjuna and restored the magical cow. In revenge, Jamadagni was killed by the son of Kartavirya Sahasrarjuna.
When Parshuram returned to the ashram, he saw his father's body. He saw 21 marks on Jamadagni's body and resolved to kill all unjust Kshatriyas 21 times on this earth. He killed all the king's sons.

Parashurama still lives on earth according to Hindu belief, unlike all other incarnations. Therefore, unlike Rama and Krishna, Parashurama is not worshiped. In South India, in the holy place Pajaka near Udupi, a prominent temple exists which commemorates Parasurama. There are many temples on the west coast of India dedicated to Lord Parasurama.
