Mahabalipuram or Mamallapuram is an old port and historic city in the Kancheepuram district of Tamil Nadu most popular for the UNESCO World Heritage Site of 7th and 8th century Hindu Group of Monuments at Mamallapuram. During the rule of the Pallava dynasty, between the 3rd century CE and 7th century CE, it turned into a significant focus of art and architecture.

The town was named after Pallava ruler Narasimhavarman I, who was called Mahamalla. Beside money related thriving, it transformed into the site of a social event of grand tourist spots. Cave Temples

The Adi Varaha Perumal Cave Temple is the one of the earliest  of all Pallava structures in Mahabalipuram. The development of this site started before the rule of Mahendravarman I. The temple is committed to Vishnu (Varaha is a manifestation of Vishnu). Both the external corridor and sanctum sanatorium are embellished with expound alleviation figures. This temple houses two alleviation figures of Pallava rulers, Simhavishnu and Mahendravarman I, joined by their Wives.
The Trimurti Cave is devoted to the trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva represent to the procedure of creation, sustenance and annihilation.

Descent of the Ganges

Descent of ganges is also known as Arjuna’s Penance. Descent of the Ganges is a huge open air bas-relief carved out of pink granite. The dramatic sculpture describes the tales from Indian epics such as the Mahabharata. Adjacent mandapas, particularly the Krishna Mandapa, however, showcase scenes of rural life amid mythical facts.

Pancha Ratha

Pancha Ratha (five chariots) is an architectural epic to Mahabharata’s five Pandava brothers Yudhistir, Bhima, Arjuna, Nakula, Sahadeva, and their wife Draupadi.  Basically, each ratha is significantly different from the others, but all of them were carved out of a long stone.
There is a magnificent stone structures of five Pandava brothers, significant characters of the Indian epic Mahabharata. Each monolithic structure showcases intricate carvings and fine work of art by the skilled artisans of the 7th century.

Shore Temple

Mahabalipuram  is Situated on the shores of Bay of Bengal, has a humid climate round the year. Though it can be holiday at throughout the year, summers get sweet hot. Some tourists like monsoon for visiting. The best time to visit is during months of October through March.

How to reach Mahabalipuram

Mahabalipuram is well connected With Chennai city both private tourist buses (that operate from Chennai Central) as well as Tamil Nadu Public Transport bus services.  MTC's bus available from many parts of the Chennai, both Deluxe and Air-conditioned buses.  Taxis can be hired from the airport to Mahabalipuram.
Mahabalipuram is located around 56 km from Chennai. The nearby airport to Mahabalipuram is the Chennai International Airport that is connected to major cities in India as well as countries such as Sri Lanka, Dubai, Singapore, etc.  Form airport to mahabalipuram is far away two hours by road.
The nearest railway station is Chengalapattu. It is around 30 km far from Mahabalipuram.
