The Statue of Unity, dedicated to the ‘Iron Man of India’, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (1875-1950). He was the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of Bharat. He united 562 princely states of Bharat. Statue of Unity is Place in the Indian State of Gujarat. It is the tallest statue 597 ft. in the. It is situated on the river Narmada facing the Sardar Sarovar Dam. It is far about 100 km from Vadodara and 150 km from Surat. The project was first announced in 2010 and construction was started by Larsen & Toubro in October 2013 with a total construction cost of Rs 2,989 crore. It was inaugurated by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 31 October 2018 that was the 143rd birth anniversary of Patel.

Patel's full name was Vallabh Bhai, Jhaverbhai Patel. Vallabhbhai Patel is also called as Sardar Patel and Iron Man. He was born on 31 October 1875 in Gujarat and died on 15 December 1950 in Mumbai. Sardar Patel is most remembered for a unified India.

Biography of Vallabhbhai Patel

Mr. Vallabhbhai Patel was the politician and one of the leading men of the country during the Indian freedom movement.  After independence of India in 1947, he served as Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of India.
In 2014, the Government of India decided to celebrate Sardar Patel's birthday as "National Integration Day" to honor Sardar Patel's contribution to a unified India. Since 2014, we have been celebrating 31 October (the date of birth of Sardar Patel) as "National Integration Day".

Education of Sardar Patel

Sardar Patel spent a long time to complete his school education. He passed the 10th class examination at the age of 22 years.
In August 1910, he went to London for law studies.  He returned to India in 1913 and settled in Ahmedabad and became a barrister in criminal law at Ahmedabad bar.
Sardar Patel became popular in 1918, when he Started a movement with the help of farmers of Kairana (Gujarat) against the decision of the Bombay Government to recover the tax even farmers crop were ruined.
In the year 1928 Patel successfully managed the agitation of Zamindars of Bardoli against the high taxes. He shows the successful leadership in the Bardoli so that he was awarded the title of "Sardar", which means "Leader".

Contribution To India's Independence Movement


During the 1930 Salt Satyagraha; Patel was punished to three months imprisonment. In March 1931, Patel led the Karachi meeting of the Indian National Congress.
Vallabhbhai Jhaverbhai Patel had contributed in Gandhi's individual disobedience, and arrested in 1940 and Jailed for nine months.
During Quit India Movement (1942), sardar Patel was arrested and Jailed from 1942 to 1945.
He led the Congress Party in the 1937 elections and was a candidate for the post of Congress President for 1937.  After Gandhi's pressure, Patel withdrawn nomination and Jawaharlal Nehru was chosen congress President.
After this, Nehru was called by the British Government to form the Interim Government. If Sardar Patel would have been selected as the President of the Congress, Sardar Patel could have been the first Prime Minister of the country.
Sardar Patel was the First Deputy Prime Minister, Home Minister, Information Minister and Minister of State of independence India .  Sardar Patel was not the first Prime Minister of India but he will always be the father of a united India.

HOW TO REACH STATUE OF UNITY        


Statue of Unity situated at Sardar Sarovar Dam, Kevadiya Village Narmada, Gujarat.
The Statue of Unity is 90 kms away from Vadodara, 150 kms from Surat city and 200 kms far from Ahmedabad city.
Statue of Unity Nearest Airport
The Vadodara airport is about 90 kilometres far from the statue. From here hire a cab or use the state transport to get to the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel statue.
Statue of Unity Nearest Railway Station
Vadodara railway station is the nearest Railway station to the Sardar Patel statue. Public transport and cab can be hired to reach directly to the site.

TICKET AND TIMING

Timing  :  9 am and closes at 5 pm.
Open Days : Tuesday through Sunday are opening days.

The Statue of Unity Ticket
The Statue of Unity ticket prices are divided into two categories: Entry ticket and observation deck view.
The adult price 120 + 30 RS. (bus charges), and for children aged 3 to 15 years, price 60 + 30  RS. (bus charges).
The later includes observation deck view, Valley of Flower, memorial, museum, SOU site and Sardar Sarovar Dam. The adult price RS. 350 + 30 (bus charges) and for children aged 3 to 15 years, RS. 200 + 30 (bus charges)
Children (below 3 years) -       Free  

IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS FOR VISITORS


1 Visitors can deposit their small bags in the locker facility available at the Shrestha Bharat Bhavan ticketing counter and keep their big bags in their vehicle.
2 Foods are not allowed inside the SoU complex. However tourists are allowed to bring baby food and medicines.
